Professional Development Team
Happy Spring to all of you! Isn’t it great to see all those beautiful early flowers blooming: daffodils, tulips, crocuses and hyacinths. Our team has been blooming too, in the Mentorship, Programs and Educational Events groups. They have been expanding the number of mentor/mentee dyads, looking into varying venues for chapter meetings with even more exciting Speakers and topics, to exploring new workshops. We have been planning a lot of great opportunities and are excited to be offering them to our Chapter project manager members during the year.
Programs Team – Programs Director Kimberly Topel with team members Robert Buri and Kalosh Plaku have been busy organizing our exciting Chapter meeting agenda for the year. Our 2015 year started with a very interesting topic of ‘Finding the Balance’ presented by Gloria Green in January, where we learned about the various types of project managers and project management approaches and where we might fit in this selection and how best to improve our approach. Next in February, Dave Melbye gave us a great deal of sound advice on how to improve our ‘Strategic Business Acumen’ with many personal examples from his large breadth of experience in several fields. Kit Welchlin gave a very engaging talk in March about ‘Chaos and Change: Become a quick change artist” and providing us many tips and tricks to stay ahead of change and in the winning lane. Most recently in April, we learned about many aspects of Agile and Scrum from Nick Van, who took us through many examples in Team Foundation Server of how to use the tool to benefit the project.
Newly added this year will be meetings in July and August covering workshops on Agile and Social Networking. Venues are already confirmed for our Fall/Winter Chapter meetings through year end and will be advertised soon on our website. So, check our website often and register early to save your place at these interesting and engaging meetings!
For those of you who missed the Spring PMP Prep class, keep an eye on the website for details of the Fall class to begin in early September 2015. Also anyone interesting in assisting with the Educational Events team, please go into VRMS to apply for the Educational Events Coordinator role, we would love to have you join us!
