The Most Valuable Project You'll Ever Manage Is Your Professional Network

As project professionals, we spend our careers managing schedules, budgets, risks, and teams. We invest in certifications, training, and professional development to strengthen our skills.

Yet when I reflect on many successful careers, I notice something interesting.

The opportunities that shape our careers often don't begin with a project plan.

They begin with a conversation.

A mentor who offers guidance. A colleague who shares an idea. A volunteer opportunity that develops new skills. A chapter event where two professionals meet for the first time.

Technical skills help us deliver successful projects. Relationships often shape where our careers lead.

Building More Than a Network

Networking is sometimes viewed as exchanging business cards or making professional introductions. I believe it is something much more meaningful.

Strong professional communities are built through trust, generosity, curiosity, and a willingness to learn from one another.

Every conversation offers a chance to gain a new perspective. Every new connection broadens our understanding of project management across industries. Every volunteer experience creates opportunities to learn while serving others.

These relationships become one of the greatest long-term benefits of PMI membership.

Why Community Matters

Our profession continues to evolve. Artificial intelligence, Agile delivery, digital transformation, and changing business priorities are reshaping how projects are delivered.

Technology will continue to change.

The value of trusted professional relationships will not.

Learning from one another, sharing experiences, and supporting fellow project professionals remain essential to our success. That's one of the greatest strengths of the PMI Madison / South Central Wisconsin Chapter.

Take One Small Step This Month

This month, I invite you to take one intentional step to strengthen your professional community.

Join us for our Summer Social with the Madison Mallards—a relaxed opportunity to connect with fellow project professionals outside the workplace. You can learn more and register here:

Summer Social – August 4

Or, if you're ready to invest in your professional growth, register for our 2026 Professional Development Day, now expanded into a two-day experience featuring inspiring speakers, practical workshops, and outstanding networking opportunities. Registration is available here:

Professional Development Day (Two-Day Event)

Whether you attend an event, introduce yourself to someone new, reconnect with a colleague, volunteer, or simply share your experiences with another member, your participation strengthens our chapter.

Projects succeed because people work together.

Our chapter grows for the same reason.

Thank you for being part of the PMI Madison / South Central Wisconsin Chapter. I look forward to seeing many of you this summer as we continue to learn, connect, contribute, and grow—together.
