Why Community Matters in a Hybrid World

In today’s evolving professional landscape, the way we connect and grow has fundamentally shifted. Hybrid work environments—where in-person and virtual interactions blend—have become the new normal. While technology allows us to stay connected across distances, it also challenges us to find meaningful ways to engage and build community.

Why does community still matter?
Because professional development isn’t just about acquiring skills or certifications—it’s about the relationships, support networks, and shared experiences that inspire growth and resilience. A strong community helps us:

  • Exchange diverse ideas and perspectives
  • Receive encouragement during challenges
  • Build lasting professional networks
  • Foster accountability and motivation

Hybrid and In-Person Events: Bridging the Gap
Our chapter is embracing this hybrid reality by offering a mix of virtual and in-person events designed to foster connection no matter where you are. Whether you join us online or gather face-to-face, these events provide valuable opportunities to engage with peers, learn from experts, and strengthen your project management community.

For example, our August Chapter Meeting, “People Don’t Come with Warning Labels: Dealing with Difficult People,” will be held virtually via MS Teams. This session offers practical tools for navigating challenging interpersonal dynamics—an essential skill whether you’re working remotely or onsite. I encourage you to participate and take advantage of the chance to interact with fellow members and expand your toolkit.

We’re also excited to offer an in-person social outing this August—join us for a fun evening cheering on Forward Madison FC at the stadium! This is a great chance to relax, connect with fellow PMI members, and enjoy a lively community atmosphere.

Professional Development Day 2025: The Human Side of Technology

As we look ahead, we’re especially excited about this year’s Professional Development Day, which centers on “The Human Side of Technology.” In an age of digital transformation, our ability to communicate effectively across modes and channels—email, Teams, Zoom, face-to-face—is more essential than ever. This theme ties directly into the heart of what it means to lead and thrive in a hybrid world.

As we move forward through 2025, I invite you to stay connected, engage actively, and experience firsthand how our community enriches your professional journey—whether in person, virtually, or both.
